What is pelvic pain?

Pelvic pain is the general term used to talk about all pain experienced in the pelvic region;  inside the pelvis, in the lower abdomen, external or internal genitalia,  perineal, and or anal areas.

 

You may experience pain in one or more of these areas and the impact on your day to day life can be significant.

Signs and Symptoms (Transmaculine)

  • Do you experience abnormal or heavy periods?
  • Do you experience excessive pain in your lower back/abdomen/vulva /vagina or penis at different stages of menstruation?
  • Do you experience pain or burning during intimacy, with touch or whilst trying to insert a menstrual product?
  • Do you experience pain or burning in and around your vagina or front hole?
  • Are you able to achieve an orgasm or has your ability to achieve an orgasm decreased?
  • Are you unable to achieve penetrative intimacy?


If you answer yes to two or more of the above questions you are probably experiencing pelvic pain.

Signs and Symptoms (Transfeminine)

For those with external genitalia

  • Do you experience pain or bladder/bowel dysfunction?
  • Do you experience difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel?
  • Do you experience pain with tucking or taping?
  • Do you have pain in your, external genitals, anus or lower abdomen?
  • Do you have unwanted difficulties achieving an erection ?
  • Do you experience unwanted premature ejaculation or delayed ejaculation?
  • Do you get pain post-orgasm?
  • Do you experience sensitivity to touch on the lower abdomen or with tight clothing around the stomach?or those with Vulva and vagina

Signs and Symptoms (Transfeminine)

For those with a vulva or vagina

  • Do you experience pain or bladder/bowel dysfunction?
  • Do you experience difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel?
  • Do you have pain in your vulva, vagina, anus or lower abdomen?
  • Do you have difficulties achieving or pain with orgasm?
  • Do you experience increased sensitivity to touch on the lower abdomen, intimate areas, or with tight clothing around the stomach?

  • Identifying the cause and contributing factors to your pain or pelvic dysfunction
  • Addressing any compression of the nerves along their pathway that may be contributing to your numbness or pain

  • Suggestions for new bladder and bowel habits that can improve function
